Professional Growth

Credential Program

From June 2011 - June 2012, I attended the Stanford Teacher Education Program. I hope that my materials from that time, including the demonstration lesson that led to my first teaching position, might be useful to teacher candidates.

STEP Conference

Nowadays many schools boast about offering project-based learning. What exactly are these projects and how do they help students learn? We explain project-based learning and the process of refining work through drafting and critique by exploring examples from a range of contexts. We then explain how teachers can incorporate related practices into classrooms when they face competing pressures.

Demonstration Lessons

  • Cascade Canyon School (May 2017)
  • Ross School (May 2017)

BTSA

From August 2012 - June 2014, I participated in the Santa Cruz/Silicon Valley New Teacher Project BTSA Induction Program. I hope that my materials from that time might be useful to new teachers.

Subsequent Areas of Focus

In September 2013, I assessed my own practice, using the California Standards for the Teaching Profession, and met with my principal to identify three areas of growth on which to focus during the 2013-2014 school year. I hope that my materials might be useful to beginning teachers.

High Tech High Odyssey

In August 2015, I participated in a project slice and series of workshops designed to help me plan my first project at High Tech Elementary Chula Vista. I presented my key takeaways from the experience as well as my initial plans for a project focused on the question, "What can kids do?" to a small group of colleagues from my school. I hope that my materials might be useful to other teachers beginning to use project-based learning.
